Hell’s Gate is a center for clean energy, hosting one of the largest geothermal power plants in the world. After a day of hiking or biking, visitors can relax in the Olkaria Geothermal Spa—a series of large, naturally heated turquoise pools that are rich in minerals and offer a perfect way to soothe tired muscles while looking out over the park.
Cycling Among the Wild: A Unique Safari

Renting a mountain bike at the park’s Elsa Gate and cycling through the wide, golden valley is a high-adrenaline way to see the wild. As you peddle along the dirt tracks, you’ll find yourself riding alongside herds of zebras, impalas, and gazelles. Because the park lacks the major predators like lions and elephants that are found in the Mara, it is safe to be out of the vehicle. Named after the German explorer Gustav Fischer, it is a striking landmark that offers a fun and rewarding climb. The park is also famous for its obsidian cliffs—rare formations of black volcanic glass that shimmer in the sun. These cliffs were used for centuries by the local people to create tools and weapons. The Geothermal Spa: Nature’s Therapy
At the far end of the park, near the Olkaria geothermal power station, lies the Geothermal Spa—a series of large, turquoise-blue mineral pools heated by the earth’s natural energy. After a day of biking or hiking through the gorge, soaking in these 38°C pools is the ultimate luxury. The water is rich in sulfur and other minerals, known for their therapeutic properties.
